This locality is renowned mainly for the ‘Mahalaxmi Temple’. According to a myth, it was in 1785 that the ‘Hornby Vellard’ project to build a causeway that would unite the “7 Islands of Mumbai’ was sanctioned. It was while the construction was going on that a wall collapsed twice. Now, the chief engineer who belonged to the ‘Pathare-Prabhu’ happened to dream about a Mahalaxmi statue floating in the sea near Worli. He then ordered a search the very next day, recovered it, and constructed a temple devoted to Mahalaxmi. It was much later that a ‘racecourse’ was also built in this locality.

Is a horse racing track that is located in this locality. The track used is oval in shape, and measures 2400 meters. It was built in 1883, and has been modelled on the ‘Caulfield Racecourse’ located in Melbourne. The ‘Derby’ held on the 1st Sunday of February every year attracts a large crowd including celebrities.
