A multifaceted talent’ is the best way to describe a Mumbai based singer/entertainer Sonu Nigam. Having not only tasted success as playback singer but as a TV show host and stage performer as well, thisman can truly be called a ‘Genius Of The Artist’. Now, the question to be asked is, what exactly makes this performer so special? Here is then presenting a few facts about this singer that will help answer the above mentioned question.

a. Who is Sonu Nigam?

‘A multi talented performer’ is how this artist can best be defined as. Furthermore, this singer has sung songs in wide range of languages such as Hindi, Manipuri, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Tulu, Assamese, Odia, Nepali, and Maithili. In addition, to playback singing he has also been a part of ‘Indian Pop Music’. Furthermore, he is also acted in a few movies.

b. Where was Sonu Nigam born?

‘30th July 1973’ was when this great artist was born. It was in the city of Faridabad that he was conceived by his parents Agam Kumar and Shobha Nigam. He also has a sister Teesha Nigam, who is also a singer. He began his career at the tender of age of 4, and has been trained in Indian classical music by Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Furthermore, he married Madhurima on 15th February 2002, and they have a son together.

c. When and How did Sonu Nigam’ s career begin:

It was in the 1992  Bollywood’ movie ‘Aaja Meri Jaan’  that the singer sang his first song titled ‘O Aasman Wale. Then came the song “Accha Sila Diya” for the film Bewafa Sanam, which made him extremely popular. He then sang in movies such as Muqabla, Meherban, Shabnam, Aag, Stuntman etc. It was during this period that he became the host of TV show TVS Sa Re Ga Ma, which gave him celebrity status.

d. What was the peak period of Sonu Nigam’s Career:

It was from mid 90’s (after vacating the show Sa Re Ga Ma) to about mid 2000’s that his career peaked. In fact, during this period he not only  sang for movies but also for pop albums. His most popular album being ‘Deewana’ released in 1999 by T-Series and composed by Sajid-Wajid. Some popular film songs he sung during what can be termed his peak include: Sandese Aate Hain from the movie Border Dil Deewana from Pardes, the title  songs of Saathiya, Kal Ho Na Ho etc.

e. What was the post peak period of Sonu Nigam’s Career:

It was from 2008 year onwards with new movie directors entering the industry and music changing, the singer found less work. It was during this period that chose to either judge music shows like Indian Idol and perform live on stage, which he is a master of.

Over the years this singer has won several awards including the Filmfare as well as one National Award for the ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ title song. In addition, he has acted in films such as Jaani Dushman and composed music for ‘Singh Saab The Great’. He has also worked as a dubbing artist on the animated film ‘Aladdin’.
